A Walk Down UFC Memory Lane

A history lesson about the early days of the UFC! I remember watching the first event on PPV and being amazed at how a 175 pound guy could drag 200+ pound monsters down to the ground and choke them out. For the first time people around the world got to see first hand the power of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and ground fighting. Enjoy a walk down UFC memory lane…

Rodolfo Vieira

Great match from the 2012 IBJJF European Championships. Rodolfo Vieira is one of the greatest jiu jitsu athletes in the world, every BJJ practitioner should study his game…

Blind Man Excels in Jiu Jitsu

So what’s your excuse for not taking up the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu??? For Jeff Mata there are no excuses. Jeff started having vision problems in his 20’s and then completely lost his vision 5 1/2 years ago. Undoubtedly there is no obstacle that this man cannot overcome. Check out this amazing story of how a blind man competes and excels in BJJ.

When he’s not competing in jiu jitsu tournaments Mata is also working toward a degree at a local university, he is a true fighter and an inspiration to everyone.

The Greatest Boxer of Our Time

Boxing is often referred to as “The Sweet Science” for the precision skill that is required to be an elite pugilist. Floyd Mayweather is the best boxer of our time and this highlight video shows why. Notice the speed and accuracy in which Mayweather hits the “pull counter.” Great stuff!

Royce Gracie

Since man began participating in combat sports people have argued who would win in a fight between karate and tae kwon do, wrestling and boxing, and “street fighting” and kickboxing… For decades Hollywood movies have clouded our perception of what “real fighting” is with fancy, jumping spin kicks and moves better suited for video games. These choreographed scenes created unrealistic expectations of what self-defense is. Students eager to learn began gravitating toward certain martial arts that capitalized off of what was being shown in the cinema. Much of the general public did not understand just how effective grappling based martial arts (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, judo, etc…) are.

On November 12, 1993 the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) held it’s first Mixed Martial Arts event in Denver, Colorado. There were no weight classes, no gloves, no time limits, and very few rules (no eye poking, etc…) When the dust settled Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt Royce Gracie finally gave the world the answer to the much debated question about what works in a real fight. Royce defeated all three of his opponents by choke from the back to win the first Ultimate Fighting Championship title.

Enjoy this highlight video of the man that helped bring grappling to the masses, Royce Gracie.

Woman Uses Jiu Jitsu to Beat Man

This video is exactly why Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is so awesome! Check out how this woman is able to choke out a man who obviously had no idea what he was getting himself into. Jiu Jitsu is an excellent art which allows a smaller person to defeat a larger attacker using leverage and technique.
