Totowa MMA: A look inside NJ United Mixed Martial Arts Academy

Jiu Jitsu for Law Enforcement

Check out this video of a police officer catching a suspect of an attempted burglary. It’s obvious that the officer had either wrestling, jiu jitsu, or at the very least football or rugby training. Since law enforcement officers can’t go back in time to join the high school football team, I believe all officers should train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Mixed Martial Arts. Had this officer been untrained there is no doubt in my mind that the suspect would have easily escaped. Bravo to him for preparing himself to do his job to the best of his abilities.

NJ United Wins Big at “The Good Fight”

Congratulations to everyone from NJ United Mixed Martial Arts that competed in “The Good Fight” in Nyack, NY Saturday! Everyone gave it 100% and left it all on the mats. We had our first Little Ninjas compete in the kids division today. 5 year old Zack had two impressive victories (one by a choke from the back) against some very tough kids to bring home the Silver medal. 7 year old Leeanna also did an excellent job winning the Bronze medal, submitting her opponent with an arm bar in the consolation match. For the adults, Renzo dominated the Men’s Blue Belt division, winning 3 matches to take home the GOLD. Adam showed a nice sweep game and Brian grinded out his opponents to close out the Masters Blue Belt division.  Steven won the Silver in the Men’s White Belt division with a beautiful arm bar submission in his semi-finals match. Great job guys!

Results:
Renzo: GOLD
Adam: GOLD
Brian: GOLD, Silver
Zachary: Silver
Leeanna: Bronze

Great Night of Classes

We had an awesome night of classes at NJ United MMA. The Little Ninjas worked on their Muay Thai elbow strikes and got some great training in during “Sumo Challenge.” Keep up the great work guys!

In CAP No Gi Jiu Jitsu we focused on our wrestling and working for those takedowns. I’m impressed by how everyone is picking up the single leg. There were some awesome rolls at the end of class. We worked on some great open guard passes in CAP BJJ class and BJJ 101 class. Gil had the guys and gals working hard on their striking in MMA 101 class and we had a packed Competition Team class working on some strategy for upcoming tournaments.

See everyone on the mats!

Christina Wins the GOLD at NAGA

Congratulations to NJ United student Christina DeNichilo on her performance at NAGA Philadelphia yesterday! Christina had some very nice submissions on her way to the GOLD medal in the women’s Blue Belt division and the Silver medal in the women’s No Gi division. Keep up the great work!
