Self Defense Training in NJ

Located in the heart of Passaic County, NJ United Mixed Martial Arts provides the best self defense training in NJ. Our program is designed to prepare students to be able to protect themselves in all situations. Our Muay Thai kickboxing classes allow students to effectively use their punches, elbows, knees, and kicks to defend against an attacker from the standing position. Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program gives students the ability to defend themselves in a grappling situation when an aggressor clinches with any type of grab or headlock. These self defense techniques are essential to fully understanding how to properly deal with the physicality of “real life” altercations. In order to best prepare yourself for all physical altercations, you have to try our classes at NJ United MMA  to learn the best self defense training in NJ. Check out this video to learn one of our essential self defense techniques against the a standing rear choke.

Kids Martial Arts Kickboxing Class

We had an awesome Little Spartans kids martial arts class last week with 14 kids on the mats training hard! One of NJ United’s kickboxing instructors, Hanyann Ng leads the class. The Saturday class will focus more on striking (punching and kicking) as well as self-defense techniques to make our students more well rounded martial artists.

Hanyann is a 3rd degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate, a 2nd degree Black Belt in Doce Pares Eskrima (which is an art based on defending attacks from weapons, guns, knives, sticks, etc…), a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a Blue Belt in Judo, and is trained in Muay Thai kickboxing. Hanyann’s instruction is unique in that she is an expert in weapons defense and has plenty of experience teaching kids martial arts classes. Hanyann’s classes can help increase your child’s confidence and give them anti-bullying skills that they will need in this ever changing world.

Hanyann is also currently finishing up her last few months of medical school and applying for residency in Emergency medicine. She’s not only an amazing martial artist but also an awesome human being! This class is going to be great!

See everyone on Saturday at 11am for another awesome Little Spartans kids martial arts class! Enjoy some pictures from last week…

“Jacare” vs. Werdum

Great match from the Jiu Jitsu World Cup in 2004 between two of the top UFC contenders in their respective weight classes, “Jacare” and Fabricio Werdum.

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza only competed at Black Belt for 2 years before taking up MMA full time, but in that short time frame he won 3 GOLD medals at the IBJJF BJJ World Championships and 1 GOLD medal at the ADCC World Submission Grappling Championships. With a 19-3 record, Jacare looks to make his run at the title in 2014.

Fabricio Werdum is a 2x IBJJF BJJ World Champion, a 2x ADCC World Champion, and is widely regarded as the top submission specialist in the UFC Heavyweight division. At 17-5-1, Werdum holds submission wins over notable MMA legends, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fedor Emelianenko and will get his shot at the UFC title this year.

MMA Fighter Thwartz Home Invasion

This story is exactly why I believe that every man, woman, and child should train martial arts. Ask yourself this question, would you be able to defend yourself in a home invasion if 4 men broke into your house? What if they were armed and you weren’t? What if not only did you have to defend yourself, but also fight for your fiancé and 2 year old son?

That’s exactly what happened to Joe Torrez of New Mexico. Fortunately for Joe, he’s an MMA fighter who was able to fight off the attackers, killing one of the men and severely injuring another while the other two fled the scene. There is no doubt that Joe’s training is the only thing that allowed him to save his family and himself.

Seems like there’s more to this story than what is available to the public as of right now, but the information that’s out there is pretty amazing.
