UFC 168

The NJ United MMA family got together last night to watch a crazy night of fights at UFC 168. Chris Weidman defended the UFC middleweight title in what was a very unusual ending to the most anticipated rematch in UFC history. Anderson Silva suffered a broken shin he sustained when Weidman checked his inside leg kick. As someone who has suffered a very serious broken bone myself, it is very sad to see something like this to happen to any athlete. Best wishes to Silva and I hope he gets fixed up and recovers soon.

In the co-main event, Ronda Rousey defeated Meisha Tate in what was a very exciting fight. There were some amazing transitions on the ground. Tate was able to escape some dangerous positions, a few tight armbars, and a reverse triangle (known as the Sankaku-Jime in Judo) on the ground but ended up falling victim to the famous Ronda Rousey armbar.

Travis Browne looked good with a KO of Josh Barnett, Jim Miller submitted Camoes with a nice armbar from the guard, and Poirier made Brandao pay for not making weight with a nice TKO by punches on the ground.

UFC 168

“Buchecha” vs. Rodolfo Vieira

Check out this great match from the 2012 IBJJF Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Championships. Two of the greatest grapplers in the world, Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida and Rodolfo Vieira, met in the Absolute division and battled it out in a great match. Both athletes attacked the entire time and there were some really nice transitions.

At only 23 years old, Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida, has already established himself as one of the most dangerous Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitors in the world, hunting for the submission at all times. Winning 4 GOLD medals at the IBJJF Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Championships, Almeida dominated his weight class and the absolute division. In only a few years at Black Belt “Buchecha” has already racked up 2 GOLD medals at the IBJJF No Gi Jiu Jitsu World Championships, 4 IBJJF Pan American GOLD medals, and a GOLD medal at the 2013 ADCC Submission Grappling Championships.

Only 1 year older then “Buchecha,” 24 year old Rodolfo Vieira has been equally as impressive, winning 4 GOLD medals at the IBJJF Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Championships and 2 IBJJF Pan American GOLD medals. A Black Belt under Julio Cesar, Rodolfo Vieira will be at the top of the podium along with Almeida for many years to come.
