Totowa MMA: A look inside NJ United Mixed Martial Arts Academy

Tuesday night

We worked some great triangle escapes tonight in our Gi classes as well as defending and escaping leg locks in No Gi class. We also drilled our single leg and single leg to knee pick in No Gi as well. I’m starting to see big improvements in everyones takedowns. Keep training hard guys!!!!!!

Escapes

We are covering some great escapes this week, get in the gym and train!!!!!!

Grapplers Quest results

Congratulations to all of my students who competed at Grapplers Quest today in Asbury Park. We had a good team of guys from our gym as well as some of my students from LA Boxing Hoboken BJJ (great job Sisco) who still make the trip up to Wayne to train with us at NJ United MMA. Everyone gave 100% and we came back with 7 medals total. Everyone did great and gained valuable competition experience in every one of their matches. Team Lloyd Irvin!!!!!!

Thursday night training

GREAT training tonight at NJ United Mixed Martial Arts!!! The mats were packed and everyone was training hard. We finished up working our back defense and escapes in the Gi classes and drilled our wrestling in No Gi class…… Keep training consistantly guys, the hard work is paying off big time!!!

Technique of the week

It’s very important for every jiu jitsu practitioner to have a solid takedown game to go along with their ground skills. Whether you are practicing for self defense, jiu jitsu competition, or Mixed Martial Arts, takedowns are an extremely important part of grappling. Here is a knee pick takedown that works great for no gi jiu-jitsu/submission grappling.  This takedown is the 2nd part of our series, for the 1st part (single leg takedown) refer to the bonus technique of the week video from November 17th….

Saturday schedule

We had a great open mat training session Friday. We ended up training for over 3 hours!!!

Saturday, 11/27 we have the kids class from 11:00-11:45am, and the open mat for adults from 12:00-2:00pm.  Come in and train!!!!  Grapplers Quest is right around the corner.

Friday schedule

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!!! Now it’s time to get back on the mat and train.  We will be having open mat Friday from 1-3pm.

Happy Thanksgiving & Friday schedule

NJ United Mixed Martial Arts will be closed this Thursday for the holiday, we would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!!!!  We will be having open mat training on Friday November 26th from 1-3pm.  Come in and burn off all those calories from the holiday!!!!

Back escapes

We are working some great defenses and escapes from the back this week. The foundation of good jiu jitsu is having good escapes. Keep training hard guys!!!!
