Great evening of classes at NJ United Mixed Martial Arts! The NJU Kids Competition Team worked on some great single leg takedown defense and got to drill live with their partners. These kids are really developing some awesome balance. It’s amazing how fast they learn. The Little Ninjas class followed the comp team where we focused on turning our hips to our punches. Some little adjustments really makes a big difference when it comes to power.
Our adult No Gi Jiu Jitsu class learned the “Electric Chair,” a very effective technique made popular by Eddie Bravo. I saw a few guys hitting the sweeps during training also. We worked on our reverse de la riva guard in CAP BJJ class, drilled hard, and got some great rolling in to finish up class.
It’s always a great day when I have 2 WORLD Champions stopping by to train at the academy the same day! I pulled a double session working out for 2 hours in the afternoon and then getting some hard training in during the class in the evening! I love Jiu Jitsu!
I want to thank everyone from the NJ United family for getting together Friday night and making it an unforgettable evening. We had a great turnout of about 50 of our students, parents, friends, and family members meeting up at the American Legion in Woodland Park.
Words can’t describe how happy and proud I am of every single one of our students. I’m honored to be able to share the wonderful art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with everyone. It’s been quite the journey from a 1,100 square foot gym in Wayne to a 5,000 square foot training facility in Totowa. I’m very fortunate to have Christopher M Jones, Derek Havran, Corey Green, Gil Castillo, JJ Mike, Kev Jitsu, Michelle, and everyone else that shares their passion of Mixed Martial Arts, BJJ, and Muay Thai kickboxing with one another.
We had some great food, listened to some good tunes, and awarded some awesome trophies to some of our NJU family. It was nice to see the parents, kids, and adult students socializing together and making friends with some familiar faces from the academy. I’m very lucky to have the greatest job in the world, doing something that I love, and to be able to work with such a great group of people.
Thank you Christina DeNichilo (and Victoria), Brian Wolfe, Erik Luker, and everyone that helped with the preparation and setup of the event. See everyone on the mats!
Wrestling is a huge part of no gi jiu jitsu. In my opinion, if you’re not wrestling when you’re not training with the kimono, then you’re not doing no gi jiu jitsu. We train wrestling every no gi jiu jitsu class at NJ United MMA. Check out this defense of the single leg takedown…
Great finals match between Rodolfo Vieira and Bernardo Faria from the 2014 IBJJF Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Championships. Rodolfo is widely regarded as the greatest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitor in the world not named Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida. Bernardo Faria is a fierce competitor who has been gunning for a win over Vieira at every major tournament in the world. This was an intense battle between two masters of their art.
