Monday’s Classes

Check out some pictures from the Little Ninjas and Spartans class from today. Instructor Derek is back from his honeymoon in Japan and taught a great Little Ninjas class. The kids practiced their boxing on their feet, upa escapes on the ground and did some situational drilling and Sumo Challenge.” The Little Spartans got some work in from the closed guard, attacking the scissor sweep and armbar from the bottom. They got to drill their techniques during King of the Guard and got some tough rolls in at the end of class. Keep up the great work guys. Promotions are Tuesday and Wednesday!

We covered some great basics on controlling and attacking the back in BJJ 101 class today. We covered some excellent adjustments to make when your opponent tries to escape that allow you to position yourself to finish the submission from the back with a basic lapel choke. We also covered a very powerful Bow and Arrow Choke that can be utilized if your opponent defends the lapel choke from the back. Instructor Chris and Hanyann taught a great Muay Thai 101 class and the guys are really improving their techniques. This crew is dedicated to training consistently and their combinations are really looking sharp! See everyone on the mats!

Holiday Schedule

NJ United MMA will be having open mat training for adult students on Memorial Day (Monday) from 10:00am-12:00pm for NJU students only! Evening classes are cancelled for the holiday…

UFC bantamweight Wilson Reis

One of my favorite Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitors to watch, UFC bantamweight Wilson Reis. Wilson was a Brown Belt World Champion in 2004 and holds a 17-5 record in MMA. He was the Elite XC bantamweight champion, and also fought for Bellator before signing with the UFC. Here Wilson shuts down a flexible guard player and gets the submission victory.

Early Fight of the Year Candidate!

If you didn’t get a chance to see the Matt Brown vs. Erick Silva fight from UFC Fight Night take 15 minutes of your time and check it out! Lots of Mixed Martial Arts action both on the feet and on the ground!

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all the NJ United moms out there!
