The Pan Ams begin Wednesday and wrap up Sunday night after 5 long grueling days of competition. JT and Dominyka are two of the best young stars in the men’s and women’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu scene. JT is one of only 5 Americans to ever medal as a Black Belt at the IBJJF World Championships in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Dominyka is a 2011 IBJJF World Champion in the Purple Belt division!

Ficca Wins Superfight at AGC: Night of Champions

Steve Ficca (NJ United MMA) wins his superfight match against Joseph Gecaj (Animals MMA Yonkers) in an action packed battle at Aggressive Combat Sports LLC: Night of Champions. Steve showed alot of heart fighting through a tough kneebar and coming back to win by ref decision. After Steve escaped the kneebar, he transitioned right to the mount and threated Gecaj with an arm triangle choke, keylock, and a tight wrist lock as time expired in regulation. In the overtime period Steve got the takedown from the clinch, moved right to the mount and once again controlled his opponent, attempting numerous submissions. Steve had Gecaj in a tight keylock with time ran out, leaving little doubt that Steve earned his victory. Great match with a very tough opponent.

I learned some awesome details on the uma plata at JT’s seminar at BJJ United in Philadelphia, and got my 1st degree on my Black Belt from Jared Weiner! It was a great feeling getting together with some Jiu Jitsu friends from many years past to have a good time and learn some great technique from one of the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athletes in the WORLD! I can’t believe that this year is going to be 10 years that I have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

JT Torres Seminar

Great training in CAP No Gi Jiu Jitsu class tonight. We worked on our sprawls then worked some nice chokes from the front overhead position. While CAP Gi Jiu Jitsu class was working their Berimbolo defenses, we had some Muay Thai students doing some sparring with coach Dan on mat 2. Instructor Derek taught another great BJJ 101 class to finish off the night. Great work guys, lets keep pushing each other to the next level!

Come to the Birchwood Manor on March 15th to support coach Pat “Paddy Boy” Farrell vs John Lennox. Pat is a 3x Golden Gloves Champion and is 8-1 as a pro. We had a great night of jiu jitsu classes tonight. In CAP Gi we worked on countering and passing the berimbolo position. In BJJ 101 we worked on some effective counters to our opponents trying to pass the half guard. Hanyann taught another great Boxing 101 class on mat 2. We have some new members of the NJU family working hard in the Boxing 101 classes. We worked on some drills in CAP No Gi to help some of our students that are competing in tournaments next month! Excellent work guys!
