This Saturday, September, 22nd, Grapplers Quest hosted a tournament in Boston, MA showcasing some of the New England areas best submission grapplers and jiu jitsu fighters. NJ United MMA student Erik Luker was the only competitor from the team to compete in Boston and Erik represented extremely well! Erik came home with the GOLD and the Championship Belt in the No Gi Advanced division as well as winning 2nd place in the Brown Belt Gi division. Keep up the great work Erik!

The Best Jiu Jitsu Competition Team in NJ

This past Saturday “The Good Fight” hosted a grappling tournament showcasing some of the best jiu jitsu competition in NJ. NJ United Mixed Martial Arts Purple Belt Steve Ficca put on a great performance winning 3 GOLD medals for the day. Steve closed out the purple belt division in his weight class with one of his training partners and then ended up winning the GOLD medal in the absolute division defeating a tough opponent from NYC. With already 2 GOLD medals for the day Steve wasn’t done yet as he got ready for the No Gi Purple/Brown belt division. The bracket consisted of some very tough and talented jiu jitsu practitioners and D1 Collegiate wrestlers. Steve dominated the division winning his 3rd GOLD medal of the day, here is his match against a Rider University D1 wrestler.

Great classes tonight! It was awesome having some of our Little Ninjas back on the mats training again after their family summer vacations. We went over an awesome takedown in CAP No-Gi class that I think is going to really be a game-changer for a lot of people. We worked some great open guard techniques in CAP Gi class and BJJ 101 class was packed as well! Keep training hard guys!

This summer the NJ Jiu Jitsu scene had the return of it’s most accomplished Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitor in history to NJ United Mixed Martial Arts. Team Lloyd Irvin Black Belt JT “Spiderman” Torres held nothing back as he shared his AMAZING techniques with our Combat Gold Competition Team, taking our competitors to the next level. JT won the Bronze Medal at the 2011 Mundial World Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships and he is on his way to becoming only the 3rd American to ever medal at the BJJ World Championships. Congratulations to JT for winning the GOLD medal at the 2012 IBJJF Boston Open. Watch the Uma Plata sweep that JT uses starting at 9:09 in the video that won him the match. JT taught this same setup he used at our Combat Gold Competition Team class a few weeks ago.
