Totowa MMA: A look inside NJ United Mixed Martial Arts Academy

Check out JT at the Houston Open

Check out one of my good friends and training partners JT Torres in a match from the Houston Open from this past weekend. JT won the GOLD medal in the lightweight division and also won the GOLD in the open weight class, closing out the division with fellow Team Lloyd Irvin Black Belt, Jimmy Harbison. In the same tournament JT also avenged a loss from the 2009 Mundial World Championships where he lost a close match in the finals of the Brown Belt lightweight division.

Great “Optimal Recovery” Seminar with Dr. Jan!

Dr. Jan Kasprowicz from “Recovery Team” (www.recoveryteam.co) held an excellent seminar sharing some great information about optimal recovery, proper hydration, and post training nutrition. Dr. Jan has a tremendous amount of knowledge in this field and everyone that attended the seminar walked away with some very valuable information.  Here are a few quick pictures from tonight.

Technique of the month

Here’s a not so common escape from the armbar. I learned this technique from a two time world champion in 2005-2006 on one of my trips to Brazil! I’ve never seen this technique taught before and it can be a very high percentage escape if done correctly…. Enjoy….

Congratulations Marc and Chas!

Congratulations to Marc Brooks and Chas Makkaraeng for receiving their Blue Belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tonight at NJ United Mixed Martial Arts tonight! Both these guys have been in the academy training hard and putting the time in to improve their technique.

FREE Optimal Recovery Seminar

Ladies and Gentlemen we will be having a FREE “Optimal Recovery” seminar for all NJ United Mixed Martial Arts students next Wednesday, 2/15 at the academy.  The seminar will be for about 30-40 minutes during the open mat training and before the Muay Thai kickboxing class. Some of the topics covered will be optimal recovery, proper hydration, and post training nutrition.

The presenter is Dr. Jan Kasprowicz of Recovery Team, who has a great reputation for increasing athlete’s recovery time and performance.  This is a very important aspect of fitness that is often overlooked. Our bodies are a complex system that should be treated with the respect that it deserves. Come in and educate yourselves and take advantage of this amazing opportunity. Dr. Jan works with the same people that help keep UFC bantamweight contender Mike Easton of Team Lloyd Irvin running on all cylinders.

Dr. Jan will also be SPONSORING one of our athletes in jiu jitsu, grappling, MMA, or Muay Thai competition.  This is a great opportunity for anyone that is serious about competing and/or fighting Mixed Martial Arts. I’m looking forward to this event myself and cannot wait to educate myself more on this topic. See you all there!

Childrens Karate Classes Totowa, NJ | 30 FREE Days

FREE Childrens Karate Classes in Totowa, NJ

Would you like to increase your child’s confidence and give them important life skills that they will use for the rest of their life? If you answered yes then try our childrens karate classes at NJ United Mixed Martial Arts. Our childrens karate classes provide a unique way for children to develop confidence, discipline, and the will to succeed where most team sports usually fall short. In many team sports, the coach only has one thing in mind…. winning the game. This results in the most talented athletes getting the most attention for their skills while the other kids do not receive the proper attention.

In our childrens karate classes, we focus on developing champions on and off the mat. While it is important to develop the technical skills in martial arts, true progression cannot be achieved unless the student has the necessary character traits (determination, respect, etc…) to go along with the technical skill.  This is where our youth program is guaranteed to exceed your expectations. That’s why I’m willing to give you 30 FREE days to try out our program! Contact us today at 551-427-2356 to speak with one of our martial arts consultants!
