Labor Day Training!

While most gyms decided to close for the Labor Day weekend, NJ United Mixed Martial Arts opened every day and we still had packed classes throughout the holiday weekend! I’m impressed with the dedication that everyone is showing. Let’s keep up the hard work guys! The results are surely paying off.

Nice Armbar

Here is a nice armbar submission from Team Lloyd Irvin’s newest Black Belt Jimmy Harbison from the 2010 Pan American Jiu Jitsu Championships. Jimmy has an extremely dangerous guard and is one of the most entertaining jiu jitsu guys to watch. Expect big things from him in the future! Today is also Jimmy’s 21st birthday, happy birthday Jimmy!!!

JT Torres highlight

Check out this highlight video of one of my good friends and training partners JT “Spiderman” Torres. I’ve known JT since he was 14 years old when we were blue belt training partners and I was honored to receive my Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Master Lloyd Irvin and Jared Weiner alongside JT. “Spiderman” just won the Bronze medal at the 2011 Mundial World Championships, a feat few Americans have ever accomlished. Today also is JT’s 22nd birthday! Happy Birthday champ!!!!

Summer wrap up

Well it is official, the summer is over and school is back in session. The past few months have been very special for all of us at NJ United MMA. In less than a year of being open, we have already moved to a NEW facility in Totowa, NJ. Our 3,700 square foot gym makes NJ United (NJU) one of the largest Mixed Martial Arts academies in New Jersey. With over 2,000 square feet of mat space, heavy bags, a weight lifting area, and a lounge area with beautiful leather couches, NJ United is indeed a top notch training facility.

Not only is NJ United an amazing space, but we also have had unparalleled results in recent jiu jitsu tournaments. Over the course of the last three tournaments (NAGA Hartford, NAGA Battle at the Beach, and The Grapplers Challenge in Red Bank) NJU entered 9 students total to test themselves against students from others gyms across the east coast as well as the rest of the country. The results speak for themselves, 100% of NJ United MMA students competing in these three tournaments brought home a medal! These 9 competitors brought home 12 medals total (7 GOLD, 4 Silver, and 1 Bronze)!!! Very few, if any gyms can say that they have had this kind of consistent success from their students.

These amazing results that NJ United MMA has had is due to the dedication and hard work of everyone in the NJU family! Our detailed and organized curriculum is proven to develop a solid foundation of skills that prepares everyone that steps out into competition to reach their highest potential. I am so proud of every single student. It has been a total team effort and each person has contributed to allow these guys to have the success that they have had. See you all on the mats!!!
