Totowa MMA: A look inside NJ United Mixed Martial Arts Academy

The Good Fight competition results

NJ United Mixed Martial Arts had 2 students (JV and Ryan) compete at “The Good Fight” grappling tournament Saturday in Lincroft, NJ. The streak remains alive as we came home with 3 medals!!! Impressively, 100% of NJ United students that have competed in the last 4 tournaments have won at least one medal!!! This consistancy is a testament to the hard work of everyone at NJU, we truely have a special thing going on here in Totowa.

Ryan “Silky” McNeal won 2nd place in the men’s white belt division that consists of competitors ages 18-29 years old. Ryan qualifies for the 30 years and over division but he tested himself against the young guys and still did excellent! JV Emperio won 2nd place in white belt gi and then won 3rd place in no gi. In JV’s final match of the day his opponent was disqualified for using an illegal technique, but JV told the referee that he would rather finish the match than win because his opponent was disqualified. The ref allowed the match to continue and JV submitted his opponent with a triangle choke!!! JV is a true sportsman and always treats everyone with respect both on and off the mat!!! Although I love when the team wins medals, I take the most pride in how we as a TEAM carry ourselves while practicing martial arts and in our day to day lives. Being a martial artist is not something that ends when you step off the mat or leave the academy. Being a martial artist is a lifestyle, it is something that you carry with you in day to day life and with every person that you interact with!!! Props to JV and congratulations guys!!!
