Totowa MMA: A look inside NJ United Mixed Martial Arts Academy

Hurricane Sandy Food Drive

A few weeks ago Hurricane Sandy ripped through the New Jersey/New York area doing widespread damage to most of the northeast leaving 5 million people without power, heat, or hot water.  Gas was and in some areas still is very difficult to come by, with state-wide gas rationing laws in effect. People still have no where to sleep and no place to call home.  Many people are still without many of the basic necessities so it’s important that we all help out in whatever way we can.  At NJ United Mixed Martial Arts we will be collecting necessities all this week through Friday, November 23rd. Please bring in any canned tuna, soups, pasta, peanut butter, protein bars, cereal, baby food, canned chicken, canned fruit, canned vegetables, etc… to help out those who are in need. Everything will be donated to St. Peter’s Haven in Clifton, NJ.

Jay Hayes wins Bronze at 2012 World Championships

Proudly representing Team Lloyd Irvin, NJ United Mixed Martial Arts instructor Jay Hayes wins the Bronze medal in the Masters Black Belt middleweight division at the 2012 IBJJF No Gi World Championships. This marked Jay’s first medal at the Worlds, coming one win short of a bronze in 2008 and 2009 as a brown belt. After winning by triangle choke in the quarterfinals Jay came up short in a close match (2-0) to last years world champion.  This gives Jay 3 medals at the prestigious Pan American Championships and 1 medal at the World Championships.

Team Lloyd Irvin had great success at the 2012 IBJJF No Gi World Championships, taking 2nd place in the overall team results. Master Lloyd Irvin’s “medal chasers” from the team’s headquarters in Camp Springs, MD proved why Team Lloyd Irvin is a force to be reckoned with at every belt level!
