Here is a video of one of the best black belts in the world, Caio Terra, speaking out against steroid use in martial arts.  This was after Caio won his division at the 2011 Pan American Jiu Jitsu Championships. We need more people like Caio representing martial arts and using technique in it’s purest form instead of cheating to try to win.

We are dedicating this month to the open guard position. After only a few days I’m already seeing huge improvements by alot of students. Put the time in guys, I think alot of you are going to be taking it to the next level after this month of training.

It was good to get on the mats with JT and Jimmy this afternoon. Good luck to both of them as the fly out to compete in the prestigious Abu Dhabi World Profressional Jiu Jitsu Cup tournament being held on April 8-9 and 14-16 in Dubai.

NJ United MMA had a great night of classes and we finished up the night with the Combat Gold Team competition training. We did some great drills and finished up the night with some tough strength and conditioning drills.

Here is a video of our BJJ 101 class from this week.  Students are practicing sweeping their opponents when they stand up from inside of the closed guard position.  The BJJ 101 class is designed for the new student that has just started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  In these classes, we focus on basic concepts and techniques, reinforced by drilling the positions in a controlled environment.  This allows the student to get a greater understanding of the martial art and prepares them for live sparring only once they are ready.

Team Lloyd Irvin made history at the 2011 Pan American Jiu Jitsu Championships this past weekend being the first American based Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team to medal in the team standings at the Pan Ams!!!

Congratulations to Team Lloyd Irvin at the 2011 Pan American Jiu Jitsu Championships. JT Torres took the Bronze medal in the Black Belt Leve division and Jimmy Harbison took the Gold in the Brown Belt Medio division. DJ Jackson and Willie Leonard closed out the Purple Belt absolute division also. Congrats to everyone that competed!!!
