NAGA: North American Championships

NJ United MMA Comes Home With 5 Medals!

Some of the best up and coming grapplers in the NJ, NY, PA area tested themselves Saturday at the North American Grapplers Association. The tournament was held at the National Guard Armory in West Orange, NJ and the competition was fierce. NJ United sent five competitors into the competition and at the end of the day we came home with 5 medals! Everyone that competed left everything they had on the mat and I’m very impressed with the heart and determination that was shown.

NJU Blue Belts Genaro Rojas and Rob Sova closed out the Men’s Masters No Gi Intermediate division, with Genaro winning 3 tough matches to take the GOLD while Rob won the Silver medal. The teammates decided to have the match in the finals and Genaro edged out the win 2-0 with a takedown in the final 20 seconds. Rob also won the GOLD medal in the Men’s Masters Blue Belt division, submitting his opponent in the finals with a nice choke from the back!

Purple Belt Greg Joshua won his first GOLD medal and took home the Championship Belt in the Men’s Masters No Gi Expert division, defeating both of his opponents, including a nasty arm lock from the guard in his semi final match. Winning a Championship Belt has always been a goal for Greg J. and no one deserves it more than him! Great job Greg J.!

Blue Belt David D’Angelo also came home with the Silver medal submitting his opponent in the semi finals with a perfect mounted triangle choke, a submission rarely seen in the heavyweight division. Keep up the great work David!
