Repetition refines technique
In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, some practitioners feel that once they get to a certain belt rank (skill level), that they no longer need to drill basic positions, or practice techniques that they already know. This coundn’t be any further from the truth. It is a common misconception that all you need to do to get better once you’ve been training a certain amount of time is get on the mat and train hard. Although a regular training schedule will produce good results on the mat, basic technique repetition and drilling positions are two of the most important ways to get yourself to the next level. Whether you are a white belt starting your first week of training or a world class black belt, repetition and drilling should be a consistant part of your training regimen.
On Sunday Marvin, me, and JT got together to do some drilling. We worked our half guard sweeps, takedowns, submissions, and submission escapes for an hour and a half. Most of the drilling that we did were basic positions that each of us has been working on since we were white belts.
